Two Northern California Marinas Come Clean

MODESTO - Two northern California marinas passed certification in the Clean Marinas California (CMC) program in January, giving the state a grand total of 28 marinas in California (and one in Mexico) that have been certified as "Clean Marinas".

Don Pedro Lake and Moccasin Point marinas were reviewed by a team of marina managers from other marinas headed by Tim Leathers of Almar Management Inc. Both marinas are part of Forever Resorts properties.

The CMC is a statewide industry-administered nonprofit association of marina owners and managers from both the private sector and government-managed facilities. It was formed in 2004 in San Diego and has just expanded its program through the Marina Recreation Association
(MRA) to both saltwater and inland lake marinas throughout California.

Comments from Tom Kunz, Manager of Vintage Marina:

"I learned a lot from Tim and the others. I helped out at the Ventura West inspection afterward which was also quite informative to me.
Marianne rounded up a lot of people which added to the success of the day. I will now encourage managers to attend an inspection beforehand which clarifies the goals. I was a bit overwhelmed with the handbook initially, a lot of information and I prioritized but didn't have time to pursue all the suggestions in the handbook. I plan to continue cleaning up and preparing our marinas in the future."
